About Medical Bill Clarity
Medical Bill Clarity is an educational site for people who want to understand a medical bill before paying it.
What this site does
Medical billing is intentionally complex. Billed amounts differ from allowed amounts. Deductibles, copays, and coinsurance all apply in a specific order. Out-of-pocket maximums cap your exposure but are rarely explained clearly. Most patients have no way to estimate what they actually owe until a final bill arrives — and even then, errors are common.
Medical Bill Clarity helps bridge that gap. The Medical Bill Breakdown Helper lets you enter your plan details and bill amounts to get a plain-English estimate of patient responsibility — along with a checklist of what to verify before you pay.
How the helper works
All calculations run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into the helper is sent to a server, stored in a database, or shared with any third party. When you close the page, the information is gone.
The math follows standard cost-sharing logic: allowed amount as the base, deductible applied first, then copay or coinsurance on the remainder, then the out-of-pocket maximum as a cap. We explain every step in plain English so you can follow along and verify it yourself.
What this site is not
- Not a substitute for your Explanation of Benefits (EOB)
- Not legal advice or medical advice
- Not affiliated with any insurer, hospital, or government agency
- Not an official insurance claims tool
- Not a guarantee of what you will owe
Medical Bill Clarity produces educational estimates. Your actual cost is determined by your plan documents, your provider's billing practices, and your insurer's adjudication of the specific claim. Always verify with your insurance company and provider before making payment decisions.
Who built this
Medical Bill Clarity is an independent, browser-based educational project — not a clinic, hospital, insurer, or government program. It exists to make one small part of navigating American healthcare costs a little clearer.
Questions or feedback? The best way to use this site is alongside your actual plan documents and a conversation with your insurer's member services line.
